Melee Overhaul
Melee needs to be changed to make the game more skill based. Currently there is minimal skill expression and gear decides most things. Game should add directional attacks, light and heavy attacks, combos, kick to knock back shields (except buckler), and most importantly, feinting. Perhaps add parrying with all weapons. Each weapon has its own attacks still but not like the current system where every time it begins with the same swing giving you no unpredictability.

bro "overcomplicated chivalry or mordhau?" Right click to block is simply easy to understand and easy to get into. "The clunky and unfinished combat system is intentional the developers want half the weapons to be unfinished. It's not chivalry or morhau, it's worse." well I would upvote adding a rounded out combat system that doesn't feel like it was a botched rush job production where half the weapons don't have options like the actually finished weapons that include heavy attacks and blocking. Winning and losing by outplaying rather than out gearing does sound fun to actual gamers. -

<Hidden>Exactly. Didn't the idea for dark and darker come from a chivalry mod? They're gonna need more melee mechanics by the time the arena arrives.

No, not even close. The combat in DaD is very intentional and likely will not be changing. This is the direction they want to go in and if they wanted directional combat they would have gone that route. This is not Chivalry or Mordhau. -

<Hidden>Game wouldn't be fun if it was overcomplicated chivalry or mordhau. Those games already exist, the combat should be simple, easy to understand, and easy to get into, which it is.

<Hidden>Yeah something needs to change. Maybe everyone isnt into the idea of it playing like Chivalry, but at least make all of the weapons feel like they're finished like TTVCrimsonFyre said. Why can I block with one weapon but not another? Why does Longssword have a block AND a riposte but other weapons just have a basic swing?

<Hidden>I would literally quit if it was like Mordhau (used to play it). Sometimes I just want to go for the swings with minimal aim not have a parry/feint guessing game watching every attack to chamber against, while also having to deal with a boss you were just killing while getting jumped.
Its a bad idea, longsword already feels way to punishing when they parry (and after a while when people learn it, it will just be an auto win, at least it already is for me when I pay attention).
The more simple approach is why I am here and I think many more. Mordhau was just annoying and players complained that there is actually no skill expression at higher levels (yes look it up high tier some high tier players actually said there is nowhere to grow) so there is no point anyway. -

<Hidden>This is BY FAR the most skillful and difficult game to be good at. The fact you are blaming the combat and stats shows you're just an average gamer dad. If you don't like the fundimental mechanics of the game, leave. It's okay if it's too hard for you. There are games like the ones you are describing and plent of them! Dark and Darker clunky combat is what makes it special. L take and sounds like you need to switch up the game.

<Hidden>It's very basic but that is the beauty of it. It's like boxing vs ufc. Clowns say "but ufc has more stuff you can do" but boxing being only punching means that every boxer will beat every ufc fighter at boxing, because that is all they train for. More options is NOT better. Some weapons do have multiple attacks iirc, like the zwei, but anything more than that would be silly. This idea is a completely new video game and much less hardcore. You already have a mechanic in that you can drag to connect from new angles anyways so the idea is already not necessary. also UFC is just whoever the best wrestler is very dumb 'fighting' sport :D
